Ancient Egyptian History is going to get horribly entertaining this summer as the award-winning children’s history brand Horrible Histories, published by Scholastic and written by Terry Deary and illustrated by Martin Brown, joins forces with Ramses and the Pharaohs' Gold: The Exhibition at NEON at Battersea Power Station for a live museum show of Awesome Egyptians, packed with gruesome facts, thrilling tales and ancient Egyptian adventure.
Launching on Monday 27th July and running throughout the summer holidays until Sunday 13th September, Horrible Histories – Live at the Museum! invites families to take a thrilling tour of priceless Egyptian artefacts with the great Ramses II. Unfolding in two immersive parts, the show begins inside the exhibition itself, where visitors are guided through a selection of the exhibition’s most fascinating treasures by ‘Ramses’ himself.Â

As families journey through the galleries and hear stories from the remarkable reign of Ramses the Great, one of the most powerful pharaohs in history, they’ll be surrounded a priceless collection of 180 original Egyptian treasures on display, including the extraordinary coffin of Ramses the Great, the magnificent gold mask of Amenemope, the silver coffin of Shoshenq II, colossal statues, exquisite jewellery and royal treasures that have survived for more than 3,000 years.
The show then continues with a hilarious live performance featuring audience participation and the infamous 'Mummy Rap'. Families will discover the gory step-by-step process of turning a pharaoh into a mummy, as one of Ancient Egypt’s most fascinating burial rituals is brought brilliantly to life.

Neal Foster, Actor-Manager of Birmingham Stage Company and producer of the Horrible Histories stage shows, said:
Since 2005, we’ve been touring Horrible Histories and proving that history can be exciting, hilarious and unforgettable. Our Awesome Egyptians show has become one of our most popular productions, but now we’re being given the extraordinary opportunity to present our actors alongside priceless Egyptian artefacts. By bringing the performance into the NEON exhibition space at Battersea Power Station, we can create a spectacular and uniquely immersive experience that connects the storytelling directly with the objects and history on display. It will be so exciting to see what live theatre can bring to a museum experience. A winning formula set to entertain kids and adults alike.
Joseph Hocking, Sales and Marketing Director of NEON, said:
One of the core aims of this exhibition, on loan from Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, is to spark lasting interest in its history and ensure its legacy is carried forward. A key part of achieving that is inspiring the next generation of Egyptian history enthusiasts. Horrible Histories’ unique blend of humour, storytelling and historical accuracy creates an unforgettable experience for young visitors, helping them connect with the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt in a way that is both educational and enormously fun.
With priceless artefacts, legendary pharaohs, thrilling tales and plenty of laughs, Horrible Histories – Live at the Museum! promises a summer holiday adventure packed with history – with all the nasty bits left in.
